Yet I never anticipated I'd venture that farĬontributed by Tristan O. To arise and discover that there's one less day to live It appears acceptable to have a lack of concentration It seems okay, to let your focus slip away However, they, as well as all of us, can deceive ourselves at times. However, their expressions have little significance or purposeīut they're deluded, oh we're all deluded sometimes To an environment where people speak a foreign or incomprehensible language Interestingly, the song's music video features scenes of the band performing alongside footage of a woman who appears to be struggling with addiction, highlighting the themes of redemption and the desire to help those who are suffering. The idea of coming to save a woman who is perceived as tainted can also be interpreted as a desire to redeem oneself, to make amends for the mistakes of the past by helping others who may be struggling with similar issues. The theme of the song seems to revolve around the contrast between desire and regret, and the human tendency to be drawn into temptation even when it leads to pain and suffering. The chorus then introduces the idea of coming to save a woman who is perceived as tainted or wasted, expressing sympathy for her scars and pain while also acknowledging the speaker's desire to help even if they need to cover their eyes to do so. The second verse speaks of the price one pays for letting their focus slip away and giving into temptation, resulting in the loss of virginity or other forms of regret. The first verse describes a desire to find a place of confidence and understanding, yet acknowledging that language can be meaningless and we all can become deluded at times. No matter if his girlfriend get's caught in a crime or winds up dead he's still most concerned about getting a fix.The lyrics of Plush's song "Tainted" are full of emotion and longing. Those lines show the addict's state of mind. When his say's "will she smell alone?" maybe that's him contemplating not doing the robbery with her. Maybe he and his girlfriend are going to rob a store or somebody to get money for drugs. When he's talking about a mask I always thought that was refering to robbery (cause' robbers often wear masks to conceal their identity). And she feels it." Is refering to getting high, specifically shooting up smack. They often lie in order to get their next fix. They're very apathetic when it comes to anything but their drug of choice. I thought that depicted the attitude of the average drug addict. If you're a serious addict it's like being in a zombie-like state cause' you're high all the time. In a way when you're an addict it's like being dead because you're slowly killing yourself. Anyway I think they may have tied the dead-girl theme with the drug theme. I always thought this song was about being a junkie, though I vaugely remember hearing that they wrote it about a missing girl from their hometown, who later on was found dead. all together this song is very powerful and full of emotion, I love the metaphors used in this song. When the men she is around flirt with her and try getting with her, he'll find out later if she's been faithful and wait until tomorrow if she'll still be with him. Then going on to ask again, if she still cares.he seems very hurt as if he'll never see her again. He's questioning if she's crying and upset about their relationship. The 2nd verse starts off with, "so much depends on the weather", which weather can symbolize emotion like dark skies and black clouds are depression.īut he describes in the second line, "so is it raining in your bedroom", going back to the weather part, which rain could symbolize tears and crying. The mask I found is described as a character she portrays or an emotion that she is showing.Īnd the dogs symbolize the men that are around her, hitting on her flirting with her, that sort of deal, and then saying, will she trust him and be alone when she's not around him. The chorus describes still if she cares for him at all like he does for her. The first line seems sarcastic, or if not caring.Īnd then he begins to describe his relationship with his girl, beginning to figure her out, and he thinks that she doesn't feel as strongly to him. Ive heard this song the last 15 yrs and its one of my favorites, but I had it on heavy rotation in feb of this year and think I MIGHT have figured it out. Wow.well, lets see if I can actually be the one to make some sense.
